About ME

Welcome to Sports Massage Works!

My name is Sharon and I am the founder of Sports Massage Works.  I have been massaging for years and I love my job!

I am a Qualified BTEC Level 5 Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapist, having trained at the St Mary's University and the School of Natural Therapies, London.  I am also a member of the ISRM (The Institute of Sport & Remedial Massage) and CNHC (Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council).  Sports Massage Works is based in Sutton, Surrey, London approximately 5-minutes walk from the Sutton Overground Station.

The aim of Sports and Deep Tissue Massage is to improve your daily lifestyle by relieving pain and targeting musculoskeletal issues caused by injury, tight or over worked muscles by using advanced and various techniques like  STR (Soft Tissue Release) or MET (Muscle Energy Techniques), MFR (Myofascial Release)  combined with Sports and Deep tissue massage.  As a Soft Tissue Therapist I may explore movement or joint mobility to identify what is going on and how we can treat you.  This may mean I carry out an assessment prior to your massage to ensure the most effective treatment is given.

I specialise in:

  • Sports Massage
  • Deep Tissue Massage
  • Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
  • Dry Cupping
  • Pregnancy Massage

My whole ethos is to help you on your road to recovery, for you to leave feeling much better than when you walked in!

Sports and Deep Tissue Massage is good for everyone who has sore, tight or overworked muscles.  I see many individuals who do repetitive activities and/or movements that require ongoing treatment to keep them from injury.  Whilst I work with a lot of Active and Sporty individuals, I also work with those who do sedentary roles, working from home.  So you don't have to be a "Sports" or "active" person to get a deep tissue or sports massage.  I tailor the massage to the needs of the individual's muscle group.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD) is great way to recover after surgery especially if you have had liposuction, tummy tuck or hip/knee replacements done (+- 10-days post surgery), to help reduce oedema, fibrosis and scar tissue by unblocking lymph manually.

A lot of gym goers, athletes or individuals need to stay on top form and keep from pulling a muscle or tearing a ligament or tendon, so having regular massages helps to keep these kind of injuries at bay.  I see all sorts of clients including children aged 11 right up to 90-year olds.  Everyone is different and will require specialised treatment tailored to their muscular needs. I work with clients who work from home, at the office or doing a physical job and/or are stressed, to help bring pain relief, relaxation and more mobility to everyday activities. I sometimes incorporate Dry Cupping if the client is comfortable with this, providing an extra level of treatment to a localised area needing healing by creating a suction effect.

So if you are suffering with lower back pain, neck ache or have tight, stiff shoulders then you've come to the right place.  We tailor massages to your needs. Whether you are active, sporty, work from home, do a physical job, or have a medical condition (Parkinson's, MS, arthritis) - we can help.

We also help mum's during Pregnancy and in order to have a pregnancy massage you must be 13-weeks or more.  It is advisable to get consent from your midwife and/or GP to have a pregnancy massage.

You are treated on your side to protect your belly and the pressure will be less than your traditional sports or deep tissue massage.  Pregnancy massage can really benefit you as you progress through your stages, relaxing tight and sore muscles, back pain, ankle swelling or oedema.

At some point in our lives we will suffer with tight muscles, leg pain, shoulder and neck aches and/or some form of injury, which can affect your quality of life, but having treatment will give you a new zeal on life and help reduce your pain as you work towards your road to recovery.

SOFT TISSUE THERAPY

What is Soft Tissue Therapy?

Our work and lifestyle patterns have put increased demands on our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing and this extra load on the body could show whether we have the capacity to manage or not.

Soft Tissue Therapy is more around movement assessment, and the aim is to address any pain or movement dysfunction. It is not just about Sports Massage, from a clinical level, it is much higher as it targets minor and chronic injuries by using advanced techniques like MFR (Myofascial Release), STR's (Soft Tissue Release) and MET's (Muscle Energy Techniques) alongside Sports or Deep Tissue Massage.

DO YOU HAVE ms?

There are many possible symptoms of multiple sclerosis which could include:

  • tiredness
  • vision problems
  • problems with walking or balance.

Multiple sclerosis cannot be cured, but medicines and other treatments like massage can help ease some of the symptoms. Multiple sclerosis is caused by your immune system mistakenly attacking the brain and nerves. It's not clear why this happens.
